Arlene E. Passmore, 85, of Atalissa, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Funeral services were Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa. Visitation was held Sunday at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Arlene was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Walcott, Iowa, the daughter of Roland and Thelma Arp Rochau. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School in the class of 1946.

On March 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald Passmore in Atalissa. She had been employed at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty for 22 years in the dietary department.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved playing euchre and was known for taking on her grandchildren in a rousing game of cards. Arlene also enjoyed gardening and baking and was famous for her chicken and noodles, lemon pie and frosted sugar cookies.

Survivors include four daughters: Jacqueline (Lonnie) Powers of Iowa City, Mary Passmore of Coralville, Pamela Passmore of Iowa City and Karen (Larry) Lenz of Nichols; five grandchildren: Ryan (Chelsea) Powers, Jason (Erin) Powers, Adam (Katie) Powers, Dustin (Jenna) Lenz and Travis Lenz and his girlfriend Kaylee Goldsberry; and two great-grandchildren Kellen and Peyton Powers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; three sisters, Dorothy Spilger, Phyllis Spilger and Bernice Johnson; and brother Donald.
