Thompson receives ag instructor recognition

Renee Thompson of the West Branch Agricultural Education department recently joined nearly 200 secondary and post-secondary instructors from across Iowa at the Iowa Agricultural Education Summer Conference held at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny, Iowa, June 23rd-June 26th.


Thompson was honored to receive the first runner-up award for Excellence in Science and Agriculture Program Integration in Agricultural education. This award was presented to West Branch High School by the Governor’s Council on Agricultural Education.

The purpose of the conference was professional development and to foster sharing of ideas from agriculture programs across the state.

The conference was organized and facilitated by the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE).

This year’s theme was “Back to the Basics”. Speakers, programming and activities focused on fostering professionalism and communication among agricultural educators.

Mini-workshops were held on topics including FFA Enrichment Center Leadership Development, Iowa Finance Authority- Beginning Farmer Program, Agri-Science projects, Envirothon, and Making CASE work. Learning activities included learning Ipad Applications, industry tours, and experienced teachers sharing their practices with all.

Opportunities for earning college credit or re-licensure were offered during the conference through the participation in the rigorous conference presentations and workshops through Heartland AEA.

IAAE professional organization activities were also conducted during the conference including policy making, the election of new officers, and the recognition of outstanding Iowa agricultural instructors and programs.
