Darrell E. Brown, 96, of Tipton, formerly of West Branch, died Tuesday Aug. 12, 2014, at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation was prior to services at the funeral home. Darrell was born July 22, 1918, in West Liberty, Iowa, the son of Louis N. and Audrey Foster Brown. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1936. On Sept. 3, 1939, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Kennedy and they were married for nearly 40 years. He later married Hilda Carey on May 25, 1980.
Darrell was a lifelong area farmer. He was active in soil conservation, and was past chairman and three-term member of Cedar County Soil Conservation Committee. He was a three-term member and past president of the West Branch Board of Education, 50-year member of the Farm Bureau, volunteer driver and past board member and helper at Tipton Senior Center, past West Branch Lion’s Club member and currently Tipton Lion’s Club since 1980. He was also an active member of West Branch Methodist Church and most recently Tipton United Church of Christ.
He is survived by two children: Beverly Brown and Keith (Jolene) Brown, all of West Branch; two granddaughters: Callista (Geoff) Isabelle of Allentown, Penn., and Miranda (Joseph) Mizelle of Fairfield, Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Noah and Aiden Mizelle; and sister Janet Eden living in Texas.
A brother, Roger Brown, preceded him in death.
