Letter: Treasurer’s office doing well, no need for change
Op-Ed · October 16, 2014

Cedar County residents and voters: As a 13-year employee of the treasurer’s office I would like you to know that despite what you may have been hearing about needing a positive change in our office, I could not disagree with that more.

The working relationship that we have within the office is remarkable. We receive positive and rewarding comments from our customers, auto dealer staff, financial institutions and from customers that have contacted members of the Cedar County Board of Supervisors about the great service that they have gotten from our office.

Several of our staff also work in our Drivers License Station. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 3:30 for issuance of new drivers licenses, renewals and knowledge testing. We have one staff member that also does drive testing, departmental re-exams and line drives which are very time consuming, in addition to motor vehicle and property tax support.

We are very fortunate to have four State operated drivers license stations within a 20 to 40 minute drive from Tipton. All of the State DOT sites are closed on Mondays. Since the closure of our Drivers License station on Fridays in 2011 we have issued more licenses in the four days that we are open, than we did when it was open five days a week. We have customers that come to us from Clinton, Johnson, Linn, Muscatine and Scott County for our superior and pleasant service and quick in and out turnaround.

Since our drivers license issuance numbers have increased dramatically and require a person to be staffed full time four days a week, being closed on Friday’s allow us to catch up on all the other motor vehicle and property tax responsibilities so we can start with a clean slate on Monday morning.

Gary Jedlicka, Cedar County Treasurer, thoroughly searches for the best interest rate for our tax dollars and is very fair in utilizing all of the financial institutions in Cedar County. His years of service and knowledge of the community and of the responsibilities in the Treasurer’s office make him an excellent candidate for re-election.

As the saying goes… everyone is replaceable however, knowledge and experience are not. On Nov. 4th, please vote to re-elect Gary Jedlicka as Cedar County Treasurer.

Sandy Delaney, Tipton
