Letter: Please vote ‘yes’ on both park questions Nov. 4
Op-Ed · October 24, 2014

As everyone can see by the commercials and yard signs another election year is rapidly approaching.
This November’s election is particularly important for the city of West Branch’s parks.

On Nov. 4th, two votes will be on the ballot for the purpose of improving our existing parks and the development of park space in Pedersen valley. This vote is NOT for a community center. One vote will allow the city to borrow money to make the proposed improvements. The second is an extension, not an addition, of an already 1-percent Local Option Sales Tax. Wouldn’t it be great to have people visiting our community help fund our parks! NO new property taxes will be increased due to these referendums and both votes need to pass.

Special thanks should go to our schools for allowing our community’s youth programs to use their facilities for its various activities. Isn’t it time for our community to provide our own space? Wouldn’t it be nice to walk trails, have restroom facilities to use while watching your children’s or grandchildren’s activities, and play equipment along with other amenities to enjoy throughout our parks for people of all ages to enjoy?

A public information night will be held Oct. 21st from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Town Hall on Main Street. Please come show your community support and vote “yes” to both items Nov. 4th.

Cory Nalan, West Branch

Parks and Recreation Commissioner
