Letter: Kaufman runs positive campaign, not Johnson
Op-Ed · October 24, 2014

David Johnson and his supporters making deliberately incorrect statements about our State Representative Bobby Kaufmann.

(Sound familiar?) Bobby Kaufmann never said that he refused campaign contributions from interest groups. What Rep. Kaufmann said is that he answers to the people in his District and that he has had hundreds of small contributions from every single corner of the 73rd District.

Of course David Johnson has happily spent the money he has gotten from the labor unions and out-of-state activists. Don’t throw stones in glass houses, David. Citizens can look for themselves at the Iowa Campaign and Ethics Web site. It is obvious that Mr. Johnson can hardly get anyone to donate to his campaign inside the District (except several from West Branch where Bobby Kaufmann has many donations as well). However, David has many donations From Iowa City, San Diego, and cities all over the country.

Johnson has been absent from the towns and rural areas of out District all summer and fall and now when his supporters finally emerge, they do so stating incorrect facts and throwing mud. What a contrast to Bobby Kaufmann’s positive campaign.
