Frances Louise Gray James, 92, West Liberty

Frances Louise Gray James, 92, formerly of West Liberty, died on Jan. 2, 2015, at her home in Loma Linda, Calif.

Born on Jan. 23, 1922, she was the daughter of Tempe, Ariz., pioneer ranchers Hollis B. Gray and Leona Jones Gray.

She was raised on the family ranch south of Tempe and attended Kyrene Elementary School and Tempe High School. She graduated from Arizona State University in 1943 with a degree in elementary education and was awarded the Golden Alumni Certificate for 50 years of service to the University, Community and the Nation as an outstanding American and Teacher. She taught for more than 20 years at Rio Vista Elementary School in the San Bernardino School District in California.

She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, gardening and baking. Her wit and dry sense of humor will be remembered by all.

She is survived by her many nieces and nephews and their extended families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion W. James; her parents, Hollis and Leona; all of her siblings, John L. Gray, Hollis B. “Bud” Gray, Franklin E. Gray and Velma J. Gray Brechan; nieces Donna L. Brechan and Sally A. Gray Loughrige; and her nephew, Curtis W. Brechan.

Burial took place at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa, near her beloved husband Marion, 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty as in charge of arrangements.
