$575 raised in Penny Wars
News · February 26, 2015

West Branch Middle School fifth- through eighth-grade pupils raised $572.79 in its annual Penny Wars to fight cancer, according to the school.

In the fundraising contest, the grade that brings in the most pennies wins, but other grades can take away points by putting non-penny money in other grades' pots.

So a $1 bill subtracts 100 points, and often the winner is the one with the fewest points under zero.

1st Place: 5th grade, -7855 points

2nd Place: 8th grade, -8726 points

3rd Place: 7th grade, -11,072 points

4th Place: 6th grade, -12,254 points

The money will be donated to local children for the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma.
