Paulus, Knoop to leave school board
News · March 26, 2015

Richard Paulus and Kathy Knoop announced at the West Branch Board of Education meeting that they would not file to run again for their seats.

Paulus stated at the March 9 meeting that he had a birthday two weeks prior, and that if he were to run for another term he would need to live to be 82 years old to finish it.

"I've made a definite decision not to run again," he said, noting that when his term ends this year, he will have served 16 years on the school board.

Knoop followed, saying she would be turning 50 in March and she is going to finish out 12 or 13 years on the school board. She said she plans to spend more time in her career and with her children.

Board member Mike Colbert joked that "you're making me nervous."

"I've only been on a couple of years and everybody's leaving," he added, smiling.

Board member Deb Schreiber said that she plans on running again for school board when her term expires, also this year.

"I'm the third seat" among those up for re-election, she said. "I'm planning on running."

Superintendent Kevin Hatfield thanked Paulus and Knoop for serving on the school board.
