Jerry's Jottings: We need your help for big exhibit next month
by Jerry Fleagle, Hoover Association · Op-Ed · March 26, 2015

Are you as happy for the arrival of spring as I am? It’s a time of rejuvenation, a time to shake off the winter doldrums and get outside and get active.

And what better way to get active than to volunteer during the Making of the Great Humanitarian exhibit coming to the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum next month!

We’re looking for people who want to enjoy the outdoors, perhaps driving golf carts to help elderly visitors get around the park better, or volunteering in the Belgian Village, where you can meet interesting people, tell them Hoover’s story, or guide them through a membership application.

We also have spots indoors doing data entry and assisting with mailings. And you can even set your own hours. Folks who try it find it addictive – meeting and greeting visitors from around the world is as interesting for the volunteers as learning Hoover’s Great Humanitarian story is for our visitors!

All you really need is a good attitude. We’ll train you for the rest, and promise not to place you in a position you won’t enjoy.

This summer will put West Branch in the spotlight, and we need you to help make that light shine! Call us at 643-5327, email Info@HooverPF.org, or drop by the Yellow House across from the Library-Museum, and let’s explore a volunteer position that’s of interest to you, and show the world that West Branch has the friendliest people, best shops, and of course, a fascinating hometown hero.

I’d also like to invite anyone interested in learning about the promotions behind the upcoming exhibit to join us at the National Park Service Visitor’s Center for a briefing on our marketing effort.

Knowing when key promotions run could help local businesses gear up for larger than usual crowds. The presentation will be Monday, March 30 at 5 p.m.

Our long-held belief at the Foundation is, ‘We’re better together,’ and by sharing this information with downtown businesses, I believe we can all share in the benefits of increased tourism this summer.
