Shari Friis, 45, of West Branch, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Although she didn’t want to leave her children, she knew God was calling her name. Shari was diagnosed with non-smoker lung cancer on Jan. 25, 2013.

A celebration of life was held Saturday March 21, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. at the Henderson-Barker Home in West Branch. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.

Shari Lee Glandon was born on Nov. 20, 1969, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Billy Lee and Pamela Kay Derby Glandon. Shari grew up in Sigourney graduating with the class of 1988. She married James M. Friis on July 26, 1997, in West Branch, Iowa. Jim and Shari were blessed with two children, Billy and Anna who are still at home.

Shari was a devoted wife and mother. She loved raising her children and was very active in all their school activities. She loved being able to help out the team sports by working in the concession stand or bringing treats to the teammates. She loved watching her children in music and show choir. She was happiest being a Mom. Shari was so proud of her kids and that love also surrounded her nieces and nephews. She thought of them as her own children and were very involved in their lives also. Shari’s joy was her family.

Shari had tremendous faith in God. She had a wonderful relationship with him. Throughout her battle with cancer she trusted God and held him close to her heart. She is now with God and her Dad and is at peace.

Shari is survived by her husband, Jim, of West Branch, and her children, Billy and Anna at home; her mother, Pamela Glandon of West Branch; brothers Jeffrey (Vicki) Glandon of New Franklin, Mo., Patrick Glandon of Greenbriar, Ark.; sister Susan (Joe) Wasko of Keosauqua; nephews Kyle (Brittany) Glandon of Batavia, Iowa, Nick (Jessi) Glandon of New Franklin, Mo., and Jacob (Katy) Wasko of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and nieces Elisa (Alex) Lyons of North Liberty, Katie (Skylar) Wasko of West Des Moines, and Ele (Jared) Kueckelhan of Booneville, Mo. She was also awaiting two grandnieces to be born this spring. Also surviving are her father and mother-in-law, Herb and Karen Friis; brother-in-law Jason Friis; sister-in-Laws Ellen (Joe) Ehle and Erin (Eric) Mok; as well as many aunts and uncles who love her very much. She is also survived by Frosty, her dog who brought her such joy.

Proceeding Shari in death were her father, Billy Lee Glandon; grandparents Lyle and Irene Glandon, and Ralph and Edith Derby; as well as a brother-in-law Joe Friis.
