Letter: Stout shows commitment, dedication
Op-Ed · July 16, 2015

I would like to take a quick opportunity to say “thank you” to Ritchie Stout for his remarkable dedication and commitment to the young kids of West Branch.

Ritchie has spent countless hours coaching, teaching, and mentoring young men in our community for as long as I can remember. The time and effort that he has devoted to my son and countless other sons’ is the true epitome of what makes small towns in Iowa so special and unique.

Ritchie has volunteered his time coaching football, baseball, and basketball throughout the years and has also helped turn the Legion field into a great place to watch a ballgame. In this day and age of “Friday Night Tykes” and “Coaching Bad” which depicts coaches bullying/ abusing young kids and acting like tantrum-throwing children themselves, it is honorable to watch the way that Ritchie coaches and guides those that play for him, as he provides a model that parents can appreciate and admire.

The impact that coaches like Ritchie have on our children is an amazing thing and should be recognized on a regular basis. There are several other people in our community that devout their time and energy into coaching and teaching and I applaud these special individuals, as well. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to helping our community, and more importantly, our community’s greatest asset, our children, learn and grow.

Jason Pedersen, West Branch
