Violet G. “Vi” Salisbury, 98, of Iowa City, formerly of rural Riverside, Iowa; passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 13, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial following at North Scott Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday at the funeral home. Violet G. Peterson was born July 24, 1917, in rural Johnson County; daughter of Andrew and Christiana (Miller) Peterson. On June 2, 1951, she married Harry Salisbury in Casper, Wy., and spent several years farming in South Dakota. In 1958, they would move back to Iowa to be near Vi’s family. Vi worked several jobs in this area, starting with Paris Cleaners, working at the Hamburg Inn, Sheller-Globe and ultimately retiring from Dairy Queen. After retirement, Vi loved daily visits to the thrift stores and garage sales. She always enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with family. She had a close relationship with her local granddaughters, Shannon and Melissa, and left many life-long memories for them to cherish.

Her family includes her children, Gary Salisbury (Marie) of San Diego, Calif., Connie Salisbury of Martelle and Sheila Frink (Mark) of Martelle; four grandchildren, Michelle Elaine Alston, Yvette Gammon (Donnie), Shannon Frink and Melissa Ludovissy (Justin); three great-grandchildren, Logan Alston, Jake Gammon and Baylen Ludovissy; sister Mary Berry; as well as numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Paul Peterson, Irving Pederson and Roland Pederson; and sisters Edith Brown, Betty Stratton and Esther Arn.
