Denise Hamer, 52, of West Branch passed away suddenly Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Denise Hamer Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in the St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Riverside.

Denise was born July 20, 1963, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Joyce Harris Gregson. She was a graduate of Montezuma High School in the Class of 1981. On May 1, 1993, she was united in marriage to Dean Francis Hamer in West Liberty. Denise had been employed as the assistant to the Director in the College of Language and Literature at the University of Iowa.

She was a dedicated wife and mother, active in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and Marg buddies. She also enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, motorsports and shopping, especially with her sister, Diana.

Survivors include husband Dean of West Branch; four children: Rachelle Ham, 35, of Tipton, Vernon John “VJ” Sanders, 32, of Coralville, Alex Hamer, 18, of West Branch and Caitlin Hamer, 15, of West Branch; three grandchildren: Haylee, Madelyn and Wyatt Ham; parents Robert and Joyce Gregson of Deep River; sister Diana (Brian) Fritz of Marshalltown and their children Mariah, Maci and Brady; brother Dennis Gregson of Deep River; mother-in-law Patricia Hamer; brothers and sisters in law: Steve (Karen) Hamer, Colleen Hamer, Deb (Virgil) Mills, Terry (Charlene) Hamer, Barb (Mike) Paul, Tim (Tammi) Hamer, Robert (Barb) Hamer and Jamie Hamer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by father-in-law Robert Hamer and a brother-in-law Tom Hamer.

She was well loved by her husband, children, grandchildren and all that knew her and will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace.
