Lucille Mae White, 86, of Hills, Iowa, formerly of Moscow, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, due to complications from diabetes.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, from 11 a.m. to the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa. A memorial has been established in Lucille’s name.

Lucille Mae White was born ninth of 10 children at home on May 19, 1930, to Cora (Barta) and W.C. Anderson of Vinton, Iowa.

Lucille graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton, Iowa, in 1949. Since she was very good with math she worked for Vinton State Bank after graduation.

In 1950, she married Vearl S. Benskin, who preceded her in death. She later was united in marriage to Keith White of Washington, Iowa.

Lucille was known as a very hard worker. She enjoyed gardening, nature and especially her three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Chicago Bulls basketball. Her last place of employment was with Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty, Iowa. Lucille spent many years in the Moscow, Iowa, area with her companion, Loren “Sam” Windus, whose family welcomed her with open arms as one of their own.

The family members left behind to remember those good times with Lucy are her children: Linda (William) Phillips of East Dubuque, Ill., Curtis Dean (LaVonne) Benskin of Iowa City, Iowa, and Gary White, her son and devoted caretaker in her later years, of North Liberty, Iowa; grandchildren Kelli Becker, of Monument, Colo., Katie Phillips of Carpenterville, Ill., Kevin (Kelly) Phillips of Dubuque, Iowa, and Nathan (Amy) Benskin of Tipton, Iowa; great-grandchildren Alexis, Brenna Jo, Brayden, Addyson, Austin and Alivia; and siblings Warren (Pat) Anderson of Montezuma, Iowa, and Jim (Barbara) Anderson of Vinton, Iowa.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; siblings: Ivan, Mabel, Dorothy, Glenn, Howard and Forrest; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nephews; stepsons David and Terry White; beloved dog Macie; and best friend and companion of many years, Sam.
