MSWB welcomes Down Under Brew Pub

Main Street West Branch Community Ambassadors hosted on Aug. 18 a ribbon-cutting to welcome the Down Under Brew Pub to downtown.
Owner Mike Jones said business gradually increased after the April 1 opening, then “really took off” after opening the kitchen on June 1.
When he moved into the basement of the Hoover House, he had to add electricity, water and ceilings, he said.
Jones owned the Down Under years before, closing it in 1994 to enter real estate appraisal work, but Hoover House owners Beth Erickson and John Proeller invited him back after remodeling the historic building.
Jones said moving back is a “natural thing,” since both his daughters’ families live in West Branch.
“It’s something for them to take over,” he said.
