Lester L. Taylor Jr., 73, of Atalissa passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Visitation was held Saturday from 9 until 11 at the West Liberty Community Center, 1204 N. Calhoun Street, and funeral services followed. Burial was immediately following the service at the Overman Cemetery in Atalissa. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Lester was born April 27, 1943, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Lester Sr. and Evelyn (Glines) Taylor. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Hawaii. On April 19, 1988, he was united in marriage to Shirley Messner in Davenport.

Lester has worked in the tire business nearly all his life. Currently Lester and Shirley own and operate LS Midwest Sales.

He enjoyed motorcycles, county music, western clothing, his family, being outdoors and always found himself tinkering. Les was a very kind and gentle soul, he had a loving and generous heart and always found the best in everyone.

Survivors include wife Shirley of Atalissa; six children: Lester III “Buddy” (Dee) Taylor of Wilton, Lisa Morales of Milwaukee, Wis., Susan (Marvin) Honts of Muscatine, Cindy (Tom) Brown of Atalissa, Sandra (Mitch) Veen of Houghton Lake, Mich., and Dan (Lee) Messner of Forrest City, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Julie Taylor and Donna Ross; and brother Robert Taylor.
