Letter: Party affiliation less significant in this election
Op-Ed · September 22, 2016

How many times have you voted in a presidential election?

In the 13 times I have exercised that privilege, I have never voted for a candidate who did not have experience as a public servant. I never voted for a man who denigrated veterans or persons with disabilities.

I never voted for a man whose egomania was out of control. I never voted for a man who demonstrated disrespect for the Statute of Liberty.

I never voted for a man who did not release his tax returns. I never voted for a man who hated the free press.

I never voted for a man who stirred up racial hatred. I never voted for a man who expected me to hate my neighbor because of the place of their birth.

I know I share this pattern with most Republicans and Independents. Because I believe in this history I expect to honor these principles, with smiling gratitude, by voting for Hillary Clinton, a woman.

Never, in my lifetime, has past party affiliation been less significant.
