WBPD accepting unused meds
News · October 20, 2016

West Branch Police Department will accept unused and expired medication for safe disposal 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at West Branch city offices.

The collection event is held in conjunction with a nationwide National Take Back Initiative, the 12th year of the event organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

“Most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, which means Iowans who properly dispose of unused medicines at Take Back sites can prevent the diversion and abuse of those drugs, and potentially save lives,” Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad said in a statement. “Take Back is also good for the environment, because fewer medicines are flushed to contaminate water supplies.”

Over the previous 11 National Prescription Drug Take Back Saturdays, a total of 34 tons of unused medicine was collected in Iowa, according to the governor’s office.
