Letter: Trump doesn’t want adulation to ever end
Op-Ed · October 27, 2016

Donald, Donald, Donald!
We know you will not accept the results of this election because, as you have told us, you prefer winners. You don’t want the adulation of your supporters to stop. Donald Trump says he is going to “build a wall;” “knows more than the military about ISIS,” is going to send 11 million folks back home; has condemned Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants, judges, prisoners-of-war (he got five deferrals), Gold Star families, women, the handicapped, etc.; has gone through five bankruptcies and still considers himself a very successful businessman; is going to bring jobs back, is going to cut taxes ... How? He has no plans. He has to work WITH Congress. Democrats AND many Republican legislators have condemned him. How does he expect to accomplish anything?

From Mike Dalton: I have spent 22 years in the military and have retired as a lieutenant colonel. I worked with the most testosterone-laden members of the military — fighter pilots — and I can tell you that I NEVER heard such language as I have heard from Trump. It is NOT “locker room talk.” We took courses in affirmative action and we knew better than to refer to women in this manner. The military women I knew would never stand for it. I have deep misgivings about Iowa Senator Jodi Ernst’s support of Trump. She had the same training as I and needs to stand up for her fellow females. She is the only female senator who has not condemned his words and actions. No commander would be allowed to keep his/her position with such outlandish language such as Trump’s. Read Nicholas Kristof’s article “If Hillary Clinton Groped Men,” where he speculates where Hillary would be if she spoke or acted towards men as Donald Trump has about women.

The Atlantic magazine has been published since 1857. The editors have only endorsed three candidates in its’ long history – Abraham Lincoln in 1860, Lyndon Johnson in 1964 and in 2016, Hillary Clinton. In the endorsement they wrote: “Hillary Rodham Clinton has more than earned, through her service to the country as first lady, as a senator from New York, and secretary of state, the right to be taken seriously as a White House contender. She has flaws, but she is among the most prepared candidates ever to seek the presidency. We are confident that she understands the role of the United States in the world.” Please read about all the candidates and consider thoroughly before you vote. This is an important election. Our children and grandchildren are counting on us.
