Classroom innovators earn grants
by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · October 27, 2016

West Branch School Foundation members took a few minutes during halftime of Friday’s football game to present three Innovative Teaching Awards with a combined worth of more than $2,000.
Recipients include physical education instructor Ben Holub for a second- through 12th-grade P.E. Fitness Gram tracking program; geography teacher Kristen McElhinney and social studies teacher Erin Brown for virtual reality glasses and a smartphone to provide video for “geographic experiences for students”; and science teacher Alyssa Jacobson for Next Generation Science Standards to benefit high school biology and Project Lead The Way classes.

Presenting the Foundation grants were representatives Marisa Stout, Kami Poppen and Kathy Knoop.

“It was great to see these teachers finding creative ways to add ‘innovative technology’ to their classrooms in their various subjects,” Poppen said. “We have already heard from many students about how excited they are to start using the new technology in the classroom.”
