Letter: A silver lining: Obstructionism takes a break
Op-Ed · December 01, 2016

I began my Thanksgiving Day counting my blessings, looking forward to enjoying a bountiful meal and spending time with my family.

The overcast day reminded me of the dark clouds still hanging over this nation from one of the most divisive campaigns in our history but also of a familiar saying from a poem in 1634 by John Milton, “every cloud has a silver lining”.

Hillary was not my first choice or my second choice for the Democratic nomination but when she won, I threw my heart and soul into getting her elected because I considered the stakes were too high to trust the nation to a Republican, let alone Trump. It wasn’t easy finding a silver lining, but find it I did.

If Hillary had won the election and with a Republican majority in both the House and Senate, can you imagine anything getting done in the next four years besides investigations, hearings and attempts to impeach her? Our country did not deserve that after eight years of Republican obstruction and failed attempts to destroy the Obama presidency.

Many of us are proud of the job Barack Obama has done in his eight years, we are proud to have him represent us around the world and proud to call him Mr. President. Now the ball is in the Republicans’ court. Let’s see if they can handle it any better than they have in the past.
