Jason Robert Laszczak, 38, West Branch
Obituaries · February 02, 2017

Jason Robert Laszczak, 38, of West Branch, was born April 17, 1978, to Stefan Z. Laszczak and Karen K. (Rummells) Laszczak of West Branch, Iowa, much to the delight of his brother Jamie.

They were forever the best of friends. While visiting his brother and his family, Jason was suddenly taken ill and passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017.

A graduate of West Branch HS, he listened to the beat of his own drum and pursued many interests, predominantly music from an early age, history, sports (soccer, golf, baseball, and football) garnering accolades along the way, and represented West Branch in the Shrine Bowl.

With music, drumming was his passion and he traveled and camped the country as a drummer with the 12th Iowa Regiment reenacting at many famous Civil War sites. As a jazz drummer in high school, he also pursued drumming at Iowa State University where he was lead jazz drummer. He played not only with his fellow students but with teachers as well in quartets and continued as a rock drummer. Upon graduating with a degree in Music Performance, he went to California and continued to play music while working for a number of years at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La, Jolla. He met many great athletes, pro-golfers and celebrities, and developed a love for photography, always carrying a camera. He lived in Japan for three years learning the language, making many friends, and again pursuing his love of history. Upon his return to the U.S.A. he spent much time writing music and going out and about with his multiple cameras capturing the world around him. Having lived a full life and always willing to help others in need, he always immersed himself into life and was spiritually a part of it.

Jason is survived by his parents; brother James and his wife Kelly, and nephews Stefan and Nile; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in the USA and England, and his Uncle John in Scotland.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Betty Lou Rummells of West Branch and Gulf Shores, Ala., and paternal grandparents Stefan and Elspeth (Gemmell) Laszczak of Loughton, Essex, England.

A clan gathering of his relatives, including those from the United Kingdom, will be held next summer to celebrate Jason’s life.
