Lavada A. Castillo, 87, passed away Thursday March 23, 2017, at her home in West Branch.

Graveside service were held Monday, March 27, 2017, at Memory Garden Cemetery in Iowa City. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Lavada to a animal shelter of your choice.

Lavada was born April 19, 1929, near Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of James and Velma Furman Trent. She was raised and attended school in Wellman. On February 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert Beck in Olathe, Kan. She attended Junior college at Taft Junior College in Bakersfield, Calif., and worked until her retirement in 1992 for a group of OB-GYN physicians in Bakersfield, returning to Iowa in 1995 to be near her family.

She enjoyed her cats, gardening, handwork and quilting. She visited the nursing homes in California and the Iowa City area and was a member of the West Branch United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons: Pat Michael (Tracy) Beck of Florida and Randal (Erika) Beck of Stockton, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; and sister-in-law Donna Trent of North Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first and last love, Cletus (Jake) Curry, husband; daughter Norma Ingle; two sisters, Arietta Curry and Betty Lawyer; and brother Thomas Trent.
