Boys finish fourth of eight at Durant meet

The West Branch Bears boys track and field team competed at Durant April 4 turning in several strong performances including a first- and a second-place finish in the 3200m run.
The team scored 86 points for fourth place.

Team scores: 1) Northeast 165, 2) North Cedar 147, 3) Camanche 100, 4) West Branch 86, 5) West Liberty 83, 6) Wilton 58, 7) Durant 54, 8) Easton Valley 30

“John Muckler ran a huge personal record in the 3200m run,” West Branch Head Coach Taylor Larson said. “He won the race and broke 11:00 in the two mile.”

Jordan Baldwin finished on his heels for second place with a time of 11.00.42. Ben Thompson ran the race in 12:21.59 for seventh place.

In the 1600, Atlas Kolpin placed third with a time of 5:05.76.

“(He) had a great night running for the Bears,” Larson said. “He set a personal record in the mile, and also ran a nice split in the 4x800. We are hopeful that he can continue to improve this year.”

In the 1600m run, Will Martin finished in 5:27.75, and Nathan Hintz finished in 6:09.05.

“Dalyn Pedersen also had multiple races that he competed well in,” Larson said.

In the other distance race, Zach Thompson finished the 800m run in 2:30.29, Zach Wright finished in 2:38.07, and Barrett Walsh ran the race in 2:41.14.

“Cole Tisinger fought off sickness and threw 126-02 in the discus,” Larson said. Tisinger placed second.

Colton Dietz threw a 100-11 for eighth place. Jacob Barnhart had a throw of 96-01.

In the long jump, Luke Lenoch took sixth place with a jump of 18-06.25.

Dietz was eighth in the shot put, putting the shot 37-03.00. Chris Mahan put the shot 36-08.00, and Barnhart put the shot 33-06.25.

In the sprints, Trevor Thein finished the 100m dash in 13.22. Dakota Kaalberg finished in 13.43. Brandon Rummelhart ran the race in 14.29. Trey Eagle was seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.42. Pedersen finished the race in 25.89. In the 400m dash, John Yates was fifth in 58.88, and Thein was seventh in 59.26.

Cooper Kabela finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.33. In the 400m hurdles, Luca Passeri was sixth with a time of 1:06.67. Thein finished in 1:09.38, and Ben Kyllingstad finished in 1:16.10.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Kabela, Wyatt Goodale, Kyllingstad, and Passeri finished second in 1:09.48.

The Bears had a fourth-place finish in the sprint medley. Luke Lenoch, Passeri, Kabela, and Trey Eagle finished the race in 1:45.90.

Also fourth was the distance medley team of Levi Kleinmeyer, Pedersen, Jonathan Wargo, and Keegan Sotelo. Their time was 4:25.17.

The 4x800 team of Jacob Graves, Kolpin, Wright, and Yates was fourth with a time of 9:32.03.

The 4x400 team of Passeri, Graves, Baldwin, and B. Thompson finished in 3:58.09 for sixth place. The team of Wargo, Sotelo, Zach Thompson, and Muckler finished in 4:32.20.

In the 4x100 relay race, Goodale, Kabela, Lenoch, and Eagle finished in seventh place with a time of 48.30. Kaalberg, Pedersen, Rummelhart, and Billy Friis finished in 57.88.

“We had two different track meets this past week,” Larson said. “Both of the meets had decent weather, but we are looking forward to having some warmer weather in the coming weeks.”



At Tipton

April 6

“Cooper Kabela ran a season-best in the 110 high hurdles,” West Branch Head Coach Taylor Larson said. “He is looking to be back in form and getting back in shape. We are looking forward to seeing how his season continues to improve. Luca Passeri ran a personal record in the 400m hurdles. John Muckler continued his personal-best runs with a great mile time. Luke Lenoch jumped a season-best 19-02 in the long jump. The team of Lenoch, Passeri, Trey Eagle, and Ben Thompson set a school record in the 800m medley with a time of 1:45.23. Thompson had an incredible effort in the anchor leg.”
