Boys track takes fourth at Comets’ relays

The West Branch boys’ track and field team placed fourth at the Ron Maxson Relays at West Liberty April 21.
The Bears placed first in three events.

Team scores: 1) Tipton 147, 2) West Liberty 128, 3) Solon 120, 4) West Branch 99, 5) Wilton 72, 6) Durant 40, 7) Columbus Catholic 34, 8) Louisa-Muscatine 28

Ben Thompson won the 800m run, finishing in 2:10.48.

“(Ben) ran a phenomenal race,” West Branch Head Coach Taylor Larson said.

Nathan Hintz finished the race in 2:45.06. Connor Norfleet had a time of 3:14.96.

Luke Lenoch won the long jump, leaping 19-00.00. Brandon Rummelhart had a jump of 14-07.00.

The 4x100 weight person team of Colton Dietz, Cole Tisinger, Jacob Barnhart, and Cale Donovan won their event with a time of 1:01.00. “The weight man 4x100 team ran a nice race and brought home gold,” Larson said.

The Bears placed twice in the dashes. Tanner Lukavsky had a sixth-place finish in the 100m dash. Colton Dietz finished in 13.67.

Wyatt Goodale was the seventh-place finisher in the 200m dash with a time of 26.14. Brandon Rummelhart finished in 27.43, and Ben Kyllingstad finished in 28.21.

In the 400m dash, Kyllingstad finished in 1:03.26.

The Bears double-placed in the 110m hurdles. Billy Friis was third in 19.68, and Jonathan Wargo was fourth in 20.75.

“Friis set a personal record in the 110m high hurdles,” Larson said.

In the 400m hurdles, Friis was fourth in 1:06.68, and Jacob Graves was sixth in 1:07.33. Wargo finished the race in 1:21.00.

Jordan Baldwin placed third in the 1600m run with a time of 5:06.85. Will Martin finished in 5:36.44, and Zach Wright finished in 5:39.61.

The Bears scored twice in the 3200m run. Atlas Kolpin was fifth in 11:33.51. Barrett Walsh was sixth in 12:04.61. “Barrett Walsh set a personal record in the 3200m run,” Larson said. “He is really improving as a runner. Nathan Hintz finished in 13:09.38.

In the other field events, Tisinger was fourth and Tanner Lukavsky sixth in the discus with throws of 139-09 and 122-01, respectively. Drake Bloem had a throw of 110-04. “Cole Tisinger and Tanner Lukavsky both set personal records in the discus,” Larson said. “Cole is positioning himself to have an opportunity to throw at state.”

“Colton Dietz continued to improve on his shot put results,” Larson said. He placed sixth, putting the shot 40-10.00. Jacob Barnhart put the shot 35-02.00, and Andrew Black put the shot 30-08.00.

West Branch placed in several relays. In the distance medley, Levi Kleinmeyer, Zach Thompson, Rummelhart, and Dakota Kaalberg placed sixth with a time of 4:30.42.

The 4x200 team of Lenoch, Luca Passeri, Lukavsky, and John Yates were fourth in 1:38.30.

“The 4x200 team continues to take time down n their overall time,” Larson said. “The team is getting stronger and faster.”

The 4x400 team of B. Thompson, Yates, Lenoch, and Lukavsky placed third in 3:44.65.

in the 4x800, Baldwin, Yates, Will Martin, and Z. Thompson placed third with a time of 9:12.89.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Graves, Friis, Kyllingstad, and Wargo finished in 1:13.78 for fourth place.

The sprint medley team of Kleinmeyer, Kyllingstad, Kaalberg, and Goodale were seventh in 1:54.00



At Mid-Prairie

April 18

“Tanner Lukavsky and Dakota Kaalberg both ran well and set personal records in the 100m dash,” West Branch Head Coach Taylor Larson said. “Cooper Kabela set a personal record in the 110m high hurdles. He is looking strong and getting faster every track meet. Ben Thompson set a personal record in the 400m low hurdles. He is really dedicating himself to becoming a more efficient hurdler. He has a huge heart as a competitor. Colton Dietz had a season best in the shot put. He is close to setting a personal record. The 4x200 team ran a nice race and dropped a few seconds off the season-best time. The team is competing and getting better every time out. the 4x800 team leads the Tipton District with a time of 8:48. The guys are really coming along with running and learning how to compete.
