Rule changes will impact baseball team

There are new pitching rules in effect for high school baseball in Iowa this season, and they’ll probably have a big impact on the Bears’ baseball team.

Rules include a pitch limit and rest requirements. Pitchers in 10-12th grades can throw up to 110 pitches on full (four days) rest. They may throw up to 180 pitches in a week (Sunday through Saturday). Additional information is available at the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s website: iahssa.org.

“It’s going to limit your pitching quite a bit,” West Branch Head Coach Rich Stout said. “It’s definitely going to change the game some.

“Pitching is such a key in high school baseball. This will make it more of a team effort as a pitching staff.”

The Bears return some experience on the mound this season.

“Cole Tisinger’s back,” Stout said. “He’s a senior. He was hurt a lot of last year, but we’re looking forward to having him healthy. He should lead our pitching staff.”

Ted Bridges will pitch for the Bears.

“(He) came up and pitched about 20 innings for us as a freshman,” Stout said.

Behind the pitching, the Bears have a combination of youth and experience.

“Cale Donovan (a senior) is back.” Stout said. “He started second base for us.”

Behind the plate will be catchers Brady Lukavsky (a sophomore) and Nick Schreiber (a senior). Other returning players mentioned are Jaden Hierseman and Tanner Lukavsky.
