Four softball players named to All-RVC

West Branch Head Softball Coach Kaitlyn Mullarky presided over the 2017 West Branch Softball Awards ceremony at the high school July 12.


Varsity letters were awarded, River Valley Conference honors were announced, and the team’s accomplishments this season were recognized.

One West Branch player was named to the Academic All-State team: DaLana Kron was one of 46 seniors recognized in the state of Iowa.

All-Conference team members from West Branch for the River Valley South were Taylor Thein, (outfield) Nicki Henson (infield), Kaiya Luneckas (pitcher), and Kron (honorable mention).

Varsity letters were awarded to varsity players. Kron received a fifth-year letter.

Fourth-year letters were given to Kaylee Montgomery and Hanna Tisinger.

Kaiya Luneckas, Taylor Thien, Mackenzie Heise, Courtney Jarrett, Taylor Tisinger and Annika Olson received second-year letters.

First-year letters were given to Chloe Pence, Maddie Hatfield, Nicki Henson, Lexi Peak and Bailey Donohoe.

Out of the 80 teams in Class 2A, the Bears finished in the top quarter in several areas. As a team, their batting average was .342, which was 17th in Class A.

Their on-base percentage of .414 was 20th in 2A.

The team hit 57 doubles, which was 15th in Class 2A. Their slugging percentage of .441 was 20th in their class.

The team stole 118 bases, which was eighth in Class 2A and 25th in the state. The team had 28 hit batsmen, which was eighth in Class 2A and 15th in the state.

Participation certificates were given to the junior varsity players: Jillian Hubl, Caitlin Hamer, Sydney Van Trump, Ali Kroemer, Aleah Rocha and Haley Hebl.

Pitching: Kaiya Luneckas started 29 games and appeared in six others. She had an 11-13 record and pitched 121 innings. She gave up 82 earned runs, walked 130, and struck out 157. Hanna Tisinger started nine games and appeared in 26. She had a 5-8 record. She pitched 102 innings, walking 27, and striking out 57. Mackenzie Heise appeared in one game. She pitched 2 2/3 innings, walking seven. Caitlin Hamer pitched in one game. She pitched 1/3 inning.
