Voters going to polls on schools
News · September 07, 2017

Polling places at Town Hall will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, for three questions.

• Four candidates filed to run for two, four-year seats on the West Branch Board of Education. Greg Hetrick, Brian Neuberger, Amanda Whaley and Tim Moss are all running as challengers. Neither of the two incumbents, Mike Owen and Mike Colbert, are seeking re-election.

• A $19.8 million referendum involves two questions on the ballot, each of which must receive 60 percent to pass. The first is whether the West Branch school district should increase the debt service levy — a special property tax that pays off loans — from a maximum of $2.70 to $3.50. The second involves whether the school district should borrow $19.8 million to build additions at the high school and elementary school, then demolish the middle school.

• Kirkwood Community College asks voters to extend a 25-cent per $1,000 taxable value levy for an additional five years. (See related story).
