Bears take out Mid-Prairie

Ouch. Sometimes you’ve got to feel for the losing team.


West Branch’s eighth-grade team flat laid out Mid-Prairie, 52-1, to open the season last week.

The B team came along and beat them as well, though the Golden Hawks fared better, falling 16-9.

Lexi Klinkhammer led the A team with 25 points, followed by Delanie Luneckas with 19. Laiken Worrell had 5, Madison Hovancik had 2 and Addie Wehde had 1.

The Bears shot 6-12 from the free-throw line, had 32 rebounds, 2 blocks, 17 steals, 9 assists and 10 turnovers.

In the B game, Madison Hovancik led the team with 5 points and Addie Wehde had 4. Andee Atkins, Annie Bower and Grace Mundell each had 2; and Hilda Hernandez had 1.

The B team shot 4-12 from the free-throw line, had 23 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 turnovers.

“The 8th grade girls had a great start t the season against Mid-Prairie,” Coach Rich Stout said. “In the A game we were able to work the ball down to our post players and Lexi and Delaynie combined score 44 points. In the B game we really improved as the game went on.”
