The last week in October, Indianapolis attracted thousands of enthused students wearing their blue corduroy jackets, ready to indulge themselves in a prime learning and leadership experience.

Our very own West Branch FFA Chapter sent fifteen members and two chaperones to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend the 90th National FFA Convention & Expo from October 24th through the 28th.

The group left West Branch and headed to Indianapolis on Tuesday, where the majority of the day was spent traveling, but, they also stopped to tour Fair Oaks Farm.

Upon arrival at the farm, the group embarked on “The Dairy Adventure,” where students had the opportunity to see the barns, a rotary milking parlour, and even witness the birth of a calf.

After settling in, the group rested up and prepared for a busy day of activities to come.

To kick off Wednesday, the group traveled downtown where they visited the Indianapolis Zoo, learning about many species of animals as well as watching an extravagant dolphin show!

Before getting ready for the rodeo, students got their first taste of the convention when visiting the FFA shopping mall, where they could purchase new gear.

Wrapping up the day was the Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo, where the group saw professional bronc riders, bull riders, and even a bull jumper.

Thursday was the first full day of attending convention, and the group started it off by attending the first general session.

After listening to speakers and attending the National FFA Talent Show, students were given the opportunity to make connections with all sorts of businesses and colleges, who had filled the immense convention center.

During the same time, specific workshops were taking place and majority of the group attended the “Teach Ag” workshop.

Being the last full day in Indianapolis, the group concluded their day with dinner at Texas Roadhouse, which was kindly sponsored by the Barnhart family.

The final day at National FFA Convention & Expo started off with attending the fourth general session.

During this session many awards were handed out, and the group heard words of inspiration from many guest speakers, such as Betsy DeVos, Mick Ebeling, and Mandy Harvey.

Following the general session, we gathered our belongings and made the long trek home, reflecting on our experiences and sharing stories and laughs with one another.

This 90th National FFA Convention was definitely one to remember and has created many memories that will last a lifetime.
