Help paying energy bills available

Community Action of Eastern Iowa is now accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.


The program serves by paying a portion of the household’s total energy costs. Last year approximately 7,400 households received assistance.

This program provide supplemental assistance based on several factors, like total household income, household size, dwelling, type of heating fuel, etc.

Applicants must bring proof of income for the past 30 days, a recent copy of a heating and electric bill, and social security cards for everyone in the home.

Eligibility for the program is based upon federally established income guidelines:

* For households with more than eight members, add $610 / $7,315 for each additional member.

Eligible households may also receive weatherization services such as insulation and other energy conservation measures. On other weekdays no appointment is needed. The last day to apply is Monday, April 30.
