8th wins 2 to finish

West Branch Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball team finished with season with 17 wins, six losses and one tie.


Of that, the A team went 8-4 while the B team went 9-2-1.

The season finished this past week with contests against Wilton and Durant.

“The 8th grade girls finished off a great season winning a combined 17 games,” Coach Rich Stout said. “They were a great group to coach and have worked really hard for us the last two years. This group will really help the high school program in the next few years.”

Against Wilton, the Bears fell in a close one, 23-21.

Scoring: Laikyn Worrell 1, Andee Atkins 2, Lexi Klinkhammer 6, Delaynie Luneckas 8, Annie Bower 2, Grace Mundell 2.

The team had 26 rebounds, 7 blocks, 11 steals, 6 assists and 20 turnovers.

In the B game, the Beavers defeated the Bears 18-6.

Scoring: Annie Bower 2, Madison Hovancik 2, Addie Wehde 2.

The team had 11 rebounds, 1 block, 7 steals and 9 turnovers.

Against Durant, West Branch won 22-16.

Scoring: Laikyn Worrell 4, Lexi Klinkhammer 12, Delaynie Luneckas 6.

The team had 16 rebounds, 2 blocks, 17 steals, 5 assists and 11 turnovers.

In the B game, the Bears won 20-16.

Scoring: Annie Bower 2, Grace Mundell 2, Madison Hovancik 6, Addie Wehde 8, Addy Diss 2.

The team had 10 rebounds, 11 steals and 3 turnovers.

“I want to thanks all the parents that help us out at games and a special thanks to Tony Luneckas for helping to coach the girls,” Stout said.
