Letter: Christians who support Trump? Explain that
Op-Ed · February 22, 2018

To some of my evangelical Christian friends: I am a Christian, too.

I believe in a loving forgiving, caring God. A God who says in Isaiah 58: “This, rather is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke, setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke. Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless. Clothing the naked when you see them and not turning your back on your own.”

Please tell me how you reconcile your faith with these words? How do you reconcile your support of a person who has been married three times, who boasts of grabbing women by the p----, who supports pro-Nazi, anti-black and anti-Jewish groups, wife beaters ... ? How do the stands on immigration, guns, women’s rights, education, the environment, etc. mesh with your beliefs?

I have never had these justified and really would like someone to explain.
