Thomas E. Skay, 82, of rural West Branch, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

Funeral mass will be 10 am Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service, with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.gayandciha.com.

Tom was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Iowa City to John W. and Marcella (Wenzlick) Skay. He graduated from City High in 1954. On July 6, 1960, Tom married Shirley Rohret at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. Together they raised their family on their farm west of Oasis. Later in life, they enjoyed 19 winters in Mission, Texas and a trip to Alaska in 2010, but, most important to Tom was spending time with family.

Tom served in the Iowa National Guard, was a member of Farm Bureau and served 18 years on the Board of Directors for Consumers Cooperative.

Tom’s family includes his wife, Shirley; son, Steve Skay (Jill) of West Liberty; daughters, Sheri Parsons of Iowa City, Deb Schreiber (Tony) of Iowa City, Cindy Bohlken of Ely and Christine Skay (Dameko) of Marion; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one due in March; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay Kasper, Pat Skay, Gene Bell, Ken Finken, Dean Rohret; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack and Jim Skay; sister Mary Webb; brother-in-law Fred Kasper; sisters-in-law Margaret Finken, Marilyn Bell, Karen Rohret; and nephews Curt, John and Todd Skay.
