Dorothy E. Barkalow, formerly of West Branch, died July 5, 2012, in Colorado Springs, Colo., with her family at her side.

There was a small service with family and friends at the Evergreen Funeral Home, in Colorado Springs on July 7, 2012, with cremation following.

Dorothy was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Tipton, Iowa, to Roy and Ethel Powers of Centerdale.

She met Robert Barkalow in West Liberty while a waitress at the Twin Gables Diner and he worked at the Twin Gables service station.

They were married in 1949 and raised four sons and two daughters in West Branch. She helped run the family business, Barkalow TV and Repair, until 1977. Her and Bob moved to Colorado Springs in 1979.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Robert; children: Robert Barkalow and wife Renee of Los Angeles, Keith Barkalow of Iowa City, Cindy Powers and husband Jim of Woodland Park, Colo., Ed Barkalow and wife Kathy of Atalissa, Karen Dean of Marlow, Okla., and Todd Barkalow and wife Marcee of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Paul Powers and wife Mae of West Branch and David Powers of Ashland, Tenn.; and sister Pauline Keeler of Washington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
