The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s office on Monday released the name of the telecom employee who died by electrocution while helping to move a house from Iowa City to West Branch.
In a brief statement, Administrative Director Clayton Schuneman announced that Jay Enyart of Cedar Rapids died on Sept. 11 at the Iowa Healthcare Emergency Department in Iowa City.

“The cause of death was determined to be electrocution. The manner of death was determined to (be and) accident,” read the statement. “The family of Mr. Enyart is requesting privacy at this time.”

Enyart was working as a maintenance employee with ImOn Communications when he came into contact with a high-voltage wire as the house was moving through the intersection of Herbert Hoover Highway and Eastbury Drive on Sept. 11.

According to his obituary on the Cedar Memorial website, the 40-year-old had a visitation on Sept. 15 at First Open Bible Church.

He was a son of Richard and Susan Enyart of Cedar Rapids, graduated from Cedar Rapids-Jefferson High School, and enjoyed fitness, singing, playing guitar, and watching sports.

According to social media posts by friends and family, Enyart had given his life to Christ just weeks before.

“Our Church community is mourning a tragic loss,” read a Sept. 12 Facebook post by Sarah Holsapple. “Our dear friend, Jay Enyart, was electrocuted and killed in a work accident yesterday morning. We are heartbroken. I’ve worked out so many hard questions with God over these last few hours. The Enyart family has been family to us and our hearts hurt for them so deeply.”

His obituary states that he was a father to Kaldyn Enyart.

“Jay was one of the best dads and absolute coolest,” read Holsapple’s post. “But we grieve with hope. This separation isn’t forever and we live looking forward to seeing loved ones again in eternity and we rest with peace trusting in God’s will and His sovereignty.”
