Against six ranked teams, City High earns 2nd

In a field of six other ranked teams, Iowa City High’s Class 4A No. 3 boys’ cross country team placed second by a point with 84 at the Oct. 10 Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet.
The Little Hawks, who competed at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, did battle with 4A No. 2 Cedar Falls, who won the meet 83-84. 4A No. 4 Cedar Rapids Prairie took third with 89 in the tightly contested race at the top, while 4A No. 13 Cedar Rapids Kennedy took a distant fourth with 129. 4A No. 16 Dubuque Senior rounded out the top five with 149.

4A No. 18 Iowa City–Liberty (sixth, 151) and 3A No. 14 Epworth (10th, 271) were the other ranked teams in the field of 15.

Linus McRoberts, ranked 13th individually in 4A, took sixth in the race with a 15:30.2. 4A individual No. 30 George Karr placed 11th in 15:41.3 while Max McDowell had a 15:49.2 for 16th. Emmett Palmberg placed 25th in 16:08.8 while David Randall was the final scoring runner with a 16:09.5 for 26th.

Jarris Prottsman took 29th in 16:19.8 while Adam Schaefer placed 33rd in 16:26.7.

In the junior varsity race, City High won easily with 48 over the 69 posted by Cedar Falls.

Lynden MacGillivray was the lone West Branch runner in the race, taking sixth on the team and 19th overall in 17:25.2. Mustafa Noreldaim claimed second in 16:36.0 followed by Jack Leman, who placed third in 16:55.9. Ephram Byler had a 17:09.2 for eighth while Dylan Beerends ran a 17:21.2 for 17th. Henri Renaud had a 17:22.2 for 18th.

In the fresh/soph race, the Little Hawks claimed victory again with a 20, five points away from a perfect 15 score. Cedar Falls took second with 41.

Preston Mayhew represented West Branch, taking 48th in 18:52.0.

Leif Eastlund won the race in 16:55.6 while Jasper McRoberts had a 16:58.6 for second. Zach Howard ran a 17:03.9 for third while Malcolm Arnold placed sixth in 17:17.0. Henry Vande Berg rounded out the scoring runners with a 17:21.4 for eighth.
