Letter: If elected, I will listen to HD82 voters, citizens Op-Ed · October 30, 2024
Editor’s note: While the West Branch Times did not allow most letters election letters, we did allow letters from the candidates themselves to make a final pitch before Nov. 5. The role of a state representative is to represent the people of your community.
Traveling this district for the last several months, I’ve made it clear what my goals will be as a representative.
The one thing I’ve learned best is to be a good listener. As your state representative, that’s the thing I’m going to do the most. I’m going to listen to you.
That’s why bringing respect and dignity back to Iowa politics is the foundation of my campaign. Because there are so many differing views.
If we don’t learn to listen to each other, and treat each other with respect and dignity, we won’t be able to solve any of our problems.
I always tell people, “You’ll always know where I stand on the issues, but I’ll always listen to you. I’ll always tell you the truth, and even when we disagree, I’m going to treat you with respect.”
I’ve heard your stories, and I’ve listened to your struggles. I’ve heard where we need to do better.
I look forward to using my power as a representative to help uplift people, to encourage and support them, not to hurt people, as my opponent has done over the last 12 years.
I’ve had the honor to serve my community my entire life, starting as an Eagle Scout.
I will consider it an absolute privilege to represent you and your families. I hope to earn your vote on or before Nov. 5.
