Buddy L. Kintz passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 92 in Bellingham, Wash.
Bud grew up in West Branch, Iowa.
He was born Nov. 28, 1931, to parents Harry and Geneva “Jean” (Wells) Kintz.
After he graduated from high school, Bud and a friend took off for Las Vegas, where they stayed for a year.
Bud then enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 through 1957. He graduated third in his Air Force class. He served in France and Germany as a weather observer, communicating with the planes in the air and those about to take off.
While in Germany, Bud met Maria, who would later become his wife.
After his discharge from the Air Force, Bud attended college at the University of Iowa. Over the next 5 ½ years, Bud earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and his doctorate degree in philosophy, graduating in 1962. He was a professor at Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Wash., for 33 years and authored two books with James Bruning in 1968 and 1970.
Bud was a pilot and enjoyed taking family and friends on rides, showing them the sites around Bellingham. He truly loved the area and was active in helping to maintain the natural beauty and resources around Bellingham.
Bud and Maria married and raised two boys, Henry P. and Campbell HD Kintz. He and Maria loved to travel and they travelled the world over! They enjoyed playing golf. Bud was an avid competitor and, over the years, won many tournaments and trophies.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Kintz; parents Harry and Jean Kintz; two sisters, Kathryn Buck and Carolyn Carney; and one brother, H. Steven Kintz.
He is survived by two sons, Henry and Campbell Kintz; grandson Zachary Kintz; two sisters, Dot Rood and Sharon Kintz, both of West Branch; one brother, David Kintz of West Branch; sister-in-law Kathryn Kintz of Henderson, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews in the West Branch area: Randy Rood, Becky Oaks, Debby Meverden, Butch Buck, Cindy Shipley, and Leesa Fair.
Over the last several years, Cindy, Becky, and Leesa had been in frequent contact with Bud and enjoyed conversations, visiting, and sharing pictures with him of his family from Iowa. We love him and miss him.
