Gary A. Swart, age 83, of Camdenton, Mo., passed away on Nov. 22, 2024, at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1941, was the son of Albert and Mabel (Brogan) Swart formerly of West Branch, Iowa, from where Gary graduated high school. Gary resided in Sterling. Ill., for several decades before he moved to Candenton, Mo.
After graduation, Gary worked for Standard Oil Company. Standard Oil Company took him to Mt. Pleasant, where he started farming in livestock and grain. He started his own business, Swart Implement, in Mt. Pleasant, selling White Farming equipment. He also partnered with several others and started the largest hog confinement in Mt. Pleasant.
In the late 1980’s, he moved to Sterling, Ill., were he was a sales rep for DMI farm equipment and had several rentals in the Sterling, Rockfalls and Dixon area.
Gary loved boating, whether he was on a river or a lake. He always had a home on or near water. He loved horses and enjoyed traveling to local fairs to see horse shows since he was a young man.
He also greatly enjoyed traveling to Florida or out west to Yellowstone. Gary enjoyed driving and seeing the sites along the way. Another pastime for Gary was investing and watching the stock market. He was also a proud Mason.
Gary had a daughter (Kathy) before being previously married and had three children from that marriage (Kurt, Kevin and Jane). In 2021, Gary and Kathy Schmidt married after moving to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2020. They had met more than 20 years earlier, but fate brought them back together and they enjoyed his last few years together.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy; son Kurt Swart of California; daughters Kathy Yff of Canada and Jane Drahaovzal of Iowa; grandchildren Brandon (Kurt), Kyah (Jane) and Cody (Kevin); a brother, Dwight Swart of Florida; step-children Amy (Jimmy), Sania (Jacob), Alllison (Jerad), Andrew, and Sarah (Rob); 13 step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mable Swart of West Branch, Iowa, and son Kevin Swart of Ainsworth, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
