The West Branch girls’ wrestling program had six grapplers place at this year’s AAU Girls State Wrestling Tournament held March 3-7 at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids.
Senior Teagyn Hartz represented the Bears at the high school level, taking home a third-place finish after placing at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 1A state wrestling tournament in February.
Hartz competed in her class in the high school division, finishing on top of the consolation ladder at the event.
Stella Schultz also took third in her class while competing in the fifth and sixth grade division for her third career AAU state medal, while Sawyer Rushton also took third in her class out of the seventh and eighth grade grouping and her second AAU state medal.
Harlow Exline took seventh in her third and fourth grade division, while Layla Hamilton took seventh in her class in the seventh and eighth grade grouping. Zoey Wildman claimed eighth in her class out of her seventh and eighth grade division.
The boys’ program also competed in AAU action recently, with three placewinners at the Iowa AAU Super Peewee State Tournament held March 8-9 at Young Arena in Waterloo.
Jaxson Lynch claimed sixth in his class for his second career AAU medal out of the second grade division, while Eli Hamilton and Slater Voshell both earned seventh-place finishes. Hamilton competed in the fifth and sixth grade division while Voshell grappled in the kindergarten division.
