Hoover Foundation collects food, donations for local pantry
News · April 16, 2025

The Hoover Presidential Foundation hosted a Day of Service that collected items to mark Lou Henry Hoover’s 151st birthday on March 29.
The event brought in 640 pounds of food and about $700 in donations.

Fifteen volunteers met to unload, weigh, and organize groceries given to the West Branch Food Pantry, 225 North Maple St.

“We’re thrilled to share that our recent Day of Service was a wonderful success — thanks to the incredible volunteers and supporters who helped bring it to life!” read a Foundation press release. “We are so grateful for your continued support of the Foundation’s mission. Events like this remind us that Hoover’s legacy lives on — not just in history books, but in the hearts and actions of those who serve today.” Those still wishing to make a donation may stop by the Foundation’s offices at the Rummells Center, 127 West Main Street.

Foundation staff set up a table at the Dodge Street Hy-Vee store on March 8. Shoppers donated enough food to fill five shopping carts.

Among the volunteers was Linn-Mar High School’s Gabrielle Biedermann, a 2024 Uncommon Student Award Program student.

Biedermann’s project focused on bringing awareness to food allergies and related mental health. She brought along her family for the Day of Service.
