James ‘Jim’ Stubbs, 80, McCausland Obituaries · April 30, 2025
James “Jim” Stubbs of McCausland, Iowa, passed away on April 19, 2025, in Davenport, Iowa.
Born on Feb. 1, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and a spirited sense of humor.
A graduate of Dorchester High School in Dorchester, Wis., Jim pursued a dynamic career that reflected his wide-ranging skills and passions.
He trained harness horses in California and served as Track Superintendent at both Aurora Downs and Quad City Downs.
He also worked as a landscaper and was known for his mechanical aptitude — able to repair nearly anything — though he famously avoided using cell phones.
Jim proudly served his country as a Marine, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. His military service was a defining chapter of his life and instilled in him a deep commitment to those he loved.
Jim is remembered for his vibrant personality and sharp wit. Described as kind yet cantankerous, he brought laughter and lightness wherever he went.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Jacob and Daniel; and brother Bob. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, William; parents John and Margaret Stubbs; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Donald Albrecht.
In remembering Jim, we are reminded to be kind, raise a glass in good company, and perhaps even howl at the moon on a quiet night — just as he might have done. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
