Darlene J. Ramsey, 81, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of West Branch and Iowa City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at the Burlington Care Center.
Funeral service were Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch with visitation before the service. Burial was in the West Branch Cemetery. Darlene Joan was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Helen (Horsky) Hill. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School and later the University of Iowa with her degree in nursing. On Sept. 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vernon Ramsey in Cedar Rapids; he died June 23, 1992. Darlene had worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, first in the pediatric department and later in oral surgery, retiring in 1996. She had lived in West Branch for many years, moving to Iowa City in 2000, and most recently to Burlington in 2015 to be close to her family.
She was a member of New Life Community Church in Coralville. She volunteered at Lake MacBride Raptor Center and enjoyed nature and travel to many places.
Darlene is survived by three children: Sam (Ann) Ramsey of Iowa City, William (Cris) Ramsey of Burlington and Deborah Ramsey of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Niki Klein, Erin Ramsey, Evan Ramsey, Eddie Stout, Jamie Stout, Shannon Ramsey and Trey Ramsey; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Ron (Iris) Horak of Escondido, Calif., and Ben Horak of San Diego, Calif.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
