He was the son of Clarence and Nancy Roegler from West Branch, Iowa, born March 1, 1925. He graduated from West Branch High School. He married Florine Smith Sept. 1, 1946. They later divorced in 1987. He lived on the family farm three miles west of West Branch, where he farmed, reared three kids and all sorts of animals. He also worked at the University of Iowa and ran his own small engine repair business. He then moved to Florida, where he met and married Grace Mainardi. They were married 29 years. She passed away Nov. 1, 2015. Darrell was the kind of person that could fix or build anything. He restored many, many cars. He built his children a cable car, electric circular swings, a real miniature jeep, a pedal boat, etc. After moving to Florida, he bought, repaired, and sold bicycles, built a “surrey with the fringe on top” and numerous scooters. He was always busy building or repairing something. He also played the piano, banjo, and accordion by ear. He never had any lessons, just heard a song on the radio and sat down and played it.

His family includes two daughters, Linda (Bill) Kepke of Wilton, Iowa, and Donna (Roger) Gwinnup of Oxford, Iowa; one son, Dean Roegler of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Tim (Deborah) Simpson, Darren (Aimee) Simpson, Tracy (Paul) Grote, Aaron (Karen) Gwinnup, Sarah (Scott) Godsil, Dusty (Carla) Roegler, and Christopher (Chanelle) Roegler; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Forrest; one infant son; a step-son, Ray Mainardi; and his wife, Grace.

A memorial will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Auburndale, Fla., at 2 p.m. June 3, 2017. Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Auburndale.
