Letter: Stay involved, whether you voted yes or no
Op-Ed · September 14, 2017

By the time you read this letter, the votes will be counted. One side will be licking their wounds and the other celebrating their victory.

My hope for this community that I love is that no matter which way this goes on Tuesday, we can come together and move forward.

If the bond passes, I hope those that voted no will stay involved and know that they are welcome to enjoy and be proud of the new facilities that it will bring. I hope to see every one of your faces sitting in that auditorium enjoying some free concerts put on by our fantastic youth performers.

If the bond fails, I hope my fellow bond supporters will stay involved and keep striving for ways to incorporate the ideas and voices from all corners of this community into figuring out where we go from here.

I hope we can all set aside personality differences and work together for the betterment of our community and schools. I hope we can continue practicing how to communicate effectively with those who disagree with us and work toward finding the commonalities we can agree on.

To all the volunteers and passionate voices on both sides of this — THANK YOU — for keeping the dialogue going, for caring enough to donate your time for your cause. We all have to make decisions on how we spend our time each day, I’m so grateful that so many of you decided this issue was worth yours!

I hope that the two new school board members will be enthusiastically supported by all and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all four of the candidates who found their courage and stepped up because they care. I know it’s not easy putting yourself out there.

Above all, I hope you all continue to stay informed and stay involved — not just in school issues but in your local, county and state government issues as well. We need more voices at the table in all aspects of our democratic process. Please stay involved, we need you!
