Eighth girls basketball goes 3-1

The eighth-grade girls basketball team won three and lost one game in recent action against West Liberty and Regina.


“The eighth-grade A team lost to the undefeated West Liberty team in a close game. We played really well in the fourth quarter and just ran out of time as we were coming back,” Coach Rich Stout said. “The B team played as well as they have all season against West Liberty — defensively we did not give West Liberty any easy shots and we shot the ball really well.”

He said team played “really physical” against Regina.

“In the A game we rebounded as well as we have all season and battled to get the win,” Stout said. “The B team played another really good game as we had a lot of different girls score.”

Against West Liberty, the A team lost 27-22.

Scoring: Laikyn Worrell 5, Lexi Klinkhammer 8, Delaynie Luneckas 9.

The team shot 2-3 from the free-throw line, had 21 rebounds, 1 block, 4 assists and 14 turnovers.

In the B game, West Branch won 18-5.

Scoring: Andee Atkins 2, Madison Hovancik 2, Addie Wehde 8, Hilda Hernandez 6.

The team shot 2-5 from the free-throw line, had 14 rebounds, 12 steals, 3 assists and 4 turnovers.

Against Regina, the A team won 29-22.

Scoring: Laikyn Worrell 8, Andee Atkins 2, Lexi Klinkhammer 8, Delaynie Luneckas 9, Annie Bower 2

The team shot 5-10 from the free-throw line, had 36 rebounds, 2 blocks, 9 steals, 4 assists and 15 turnovers.

In the B game, the Bears won 22-6.

Scoring: Andee Atkins 1, Grace Mundell 4, Madison Hovancik 9, Addie Wehde 6, Hilda Hernandez 2.

The team shot 2-4 from the free-throw line, had 20 rebounds, 8 steals, 3 assists and 11 turnovers.
