Indecent exposure arrest of WB man
by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · April 10, 2024

West Branch Police Department last week arrested a West Branch man for allegedly exposing himself to a child in December.
Iowa City Police Department filed a complaint March 26 against Dustin Adam Hills, 44, for an incident that allegedly took place at 4:42 p.m. Dec. 13 at Walmart, 919 Highway 1 West in Iowa City.

West Branch Police Chief Greg Hall said Hills turned himself in to the WBPD, which executed the warrant. Hills said he was given a home address of 105 South Second Street; Iowa City Police Department listed Hills’ address as 228 North Sixth.

Hall said Hills was cooperative.

The Iowa City Public Safety department posted a picture of Hills on its Facebook account on Dec. 22 asking the public for help identifying the suspect.

According to ICPS, Hills called the ICPD asking them to take the photo off the internet; the photo remains online.

ICPD alleges that an 11-year-old girl reported that a man followed her into the toy aisles and that when she turned to look at him, the man was stroking his exposed genitals.

ICPD stated that video surveillance shows Hills following the child out of the toy aisle. The girl reported the incident to her mother and Walmart employees.

The indecent exposure charge is an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and a fine between $855 and $8,540.

Iowa Courts Online states that District Associate Judge Brandon Shrock issued a warrant for Hills’ arrest on March 27, which the sheriff’s department circulated on April 3.

Johnson County Attorney Rachel Zimmerman Smith will prosecute the case. On April 4, Hills was appointed Iowa City Public Defender Peter Stiefel.

District Associate Judge Jason Burns set bond at $5,000, which Hills posted on April 4.
