Two West Branch children won recognition in the 2024 Iowa Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
In a March 29 press release by the DeSoto and Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuges, which oversee the contest, Alyvia Vikel won first place in grades four through six and Brycen Vikel won an honorable mention for the same grade category.

Alyvia was one of three to earn first-place awards. Brycen was one of 16 to earn an honorable mention.

Judging took place on March 23.

“Students from around the state put significant time and effort into learning about their North American waterfowl and their habitats, then creating masterful artworks from this knowledge to enter the contest,” read a press release. “With five judges to choose our winners in deep deliberation, our best of show and following winning placements were decided for each grade category after competing with 280 other students who participated in the 2024 contest.”

The Fish and Wildlife service offered congratulations to the winners.

The Best of Show winner was Sevriena Postma of Sioux Center. Stamps sold with her drawing will benefit the Junior Duck Stamp program.
